UX designs how a product works and how it feels to use; UI designs how it looks. The difference between the two, the design process, and what good design earns a business.
UX and UI in short
UX (user experience) is about how easily a product gets users to their goal: flows, information architecture, the order of steps. UI (user interface) is the visual layer of that experience: typography, colour, spacing, buttons and components. A good product needs both; a beautiful but unusable interface loses, and so does a usable one that does not inspire trust.
The UX design process
It starts with research: who is the user, and what are they trying to do and why? Then come user flows and rough wireframes. A prototype is tested with real users and iterated on the findings. This loop is the cheapest way to catch a wrong feature before it is coded.
UI design and design systems
UI design builds a brand’s digital face. In growing products, colours, typefaces, spacing and components are gathered into a design system, so new screens are produced consistently and fast. In small products, though, setting up a system too early adds needless weight; it is healthier to systemize patterns as they start to repeat.
Accessibility
Sufficient colour contrast, keyboard navigation, meaningful labels for screen readers and readable type sizes: accessibility is essential both to reach more users and for a better experience. In public-sector and enterprise projects it is often a requirement.
What good design earns a business
Higher conversion (form fills, purchases, quote requests), fewer support requests and trust in the brand. On Bahar Halı Yıkama’s site we designed the quote form to turn the details into a ready-to-send WhatsApp message, to shorten the step to asking for a quote.
Thinking mobile-first
A large share of visitors arrive on a phone. Starting the design from the small screen forces you to put key information first, keep tap targets large and cut unnecessary steps. The desktop version is built on that foundation.
Design at WaveArc
From research to prototype, we design interfaces that fit the brand and can be measured; design and engineering move in the same team and the same sprint rhythm. You can find our approach on our UI / UX Design service page.
